ParticipantTt is wonderful to see how some of you are planning on improving high quality interactions within your settings to include more sustained shared thinking with the children. You have all identified effective ways on introducing / improving this aspect of provision.
Good Luck!

ParticipantThank you Debbie
Great to identify the need to use more open questions and importantly allow children thinking time – how will you lead your colleagues to improve their practice in this aspect?

ParticipantGreat ideas Summer !
How could you develop your ideas in the outdoor environment?NIckyb
ParticipantHi Katharine
Great to include specific examples in your SSTEW!
Good idea to use meal times as a natural way of introducing more mathematical concepts – I wonder if the use of ‘ prompt’ speech bubbles in the room would help remind staff to use and model mathematical language?
Role playing shops is another fun way to incorporate maths!NIckyb
ParticipantHI Despina
yes that’s correct – you could make this stronger piece of evidence by using specific examples of what you would actually do to improve this aspect of provision

ParticipantHI Emma
Thank you for your thoughts on how to improve maths provision within your setting. I think having maths embedded within continuous provision is so much more effective than have a specific maths area.
I was just thinking about maths in outdoor environment and games such as hopscotch / What’s the time mister wolf/ parachute games and so on could be used especially for the children with EAL as they might copy / imitate the other children?NIckyb
ParticipantThank you Emma,
Really good to acknowledge that more could be done to support children to connect their explorations to ‘ real life’ and in identifying the value of including some adult initiated / led activities in order to promote problem solving and critical thinking.Encouraging the children to evaluate their own learning is really valuable in supporting the children to recognise themselves as proficient learners!

ParticipantThank you Kathryn
I like the way I which you have identified how staff could be encouraged to stand back and observe a little – the use of video as a tool to improve practice is such a great idea!

ParticipantPlease find attached a critical evaluation and analysis of the proposed changes to the development matters / revisions to the EYFS that a trainee from last year completed and has kindly given permission to share.
This is a strong piece of evidence that demonstrates the trainee’s critical knowledge and understanding of the EYFS.3.1
